The Gruttner poster that appealed to me the best was probably the one intitled Sleepers. It had a really nice pop with each letter being made of vertical stripes, while the background was horizontal helping it to be brought out and jump at you.
Trying to mimic the effect in my sketch, it certainly doesn't do Gruttners work any justice, but it definitely get's the idea across.
